E-Invoice vs GST Invoice: What FreeBiller Creates

FreeBiller Team10/25/20265 min read

E-invoice vs GST invoice is a distinction between a document and a registration workflow, not simply between paper and PDF. FreeBiller creates standard GST invoices from the information you enter. It does NOT generate IRN or the government e-invoice QR. If your business must use e-invoicing, complete that process through an appropriate Invoice Registration Portal workflow.

What a standard GST invoice does

A standard invoice describes a supply and the amounts charged. It should identify the relevant parties and make the goods or services, values and tax details understandable. A downloaded PDF is a convenient way to retain or send that document. The file format alone does not show that an invoice has been registered with any tax system.

In FreeBiller, you provide business and customer information, quantities, rates and item tax percentages. The editor calculates values from those entries and produces a readable document. It does not validate a GSTIN, determine your legal obligations or select the correct place-of-supply treatment. Review every bill against the transaction and the requirements applicable to your business.

What e-invoicing adds

The GST e-invoicing process involves reporting specified invoice details to an Invoice Registration Portal. Following validation, the process returns an Invoice Reference Number and a signed QR code. Those are not produced merely by saving a document as PDF or placing an ordinary image of a QR code on a bill. Whether a business and a particular document must follow that process depends on the applicable rules and exemptions.

Read the GSTN e-invoicing overview for an explanation of the process. Use the GST e-invoice information portal to find current resources and check the workflow appropriate to your business. This article deliberately does not promise a turnover threshold or filing deadline that may not fit your circumstances.

What FreeBiller does not supply

FreeBiller does not submit your document to an IRP. It does not create an IRN, obtain an acknowledgement from the GST system or insert the government e-invoice QR. It also does not file GST returns or confirm eligibility for input tax credit. A document generated here must not be represented as having those features when it does not.

A payment QR, a business logo and an e-invoice signed QR have different purposes. Adding a graphic to a PDF does not replace the IRP registration step. If you receive a registered invoice, use the appropriate verification facilities and compare its details with your transaction records rather than judging it only by appearance.

Choose the right tool for the task

Use the GST invoice generator when you need a standard document that you will review yourself. The GST bill generator starts with a Tax Invoice heading and explains what must be checked. The GST calculator can help you review arithmetic for a proposed CGST, SGST or IGST breakdown; it does not decide the tax treatment.

If registration through an IRP is required, use a system or process that supports it and retain the resulting records. Keep the invoice you issue, any registration response and the supporting order or payment records together. The convenience of a quick PDF tool should not obscure a separate compliance step that your transaction needs.
